I am not sure why some people are critical of the content (validity, not official, etc.) given that data is provided by the CIA (CIA World Factbook).

The providers of this application do not appear to be at fault. They do not edit the content (grammar, spelling). So the critism seems to apply to the CIA analysts who write the country reports.
